Braquenne Fabrics

These carefully preserved documents reveal a fascinating world in which expertise and elegance are a guarantee of taste. Braquenié has thus over time attracted and retained the loyalty of a demanding clientele in search of beauty and became the "haute-couture” house of interior design.

The entire upper class of the 19th century filled the paneled gallery located at Rue Vivienne in pursuit of the most exquisite creations. The railway carriages of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie were lined from floor to ceiling in its creations. The wealthiest men in the world, who hailed from literary, artistic, aristocratic and financial circles alike, desired Braquenié for their lavish residences. Its order books resembled international directories that extended far beyond French borders. They contained names such as Victor Hugo, members of the Rothschild family, Frédéric Chopin, the widow Clicquot-Ponsardin, Tsar Nicolas II, Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, and many others from all the courts of Europe.
